It’s Not About Me- It’s About A Baby Named Jesus 12-13-15

None so empty, as those who are full of themselves.

Conceit is an odd disease; it makes everybody sick but the one who has it.

Talk to a man about himself and he will listen for hours.

A conceited man has a swelling head and a shrinking brain.

Conceit is the most incurable disease that is known to the human soul.

A conceited man is satisfied with the effect he produces on himself.

He who sings his own praises seldom gets the right pitch.

“God does not exist to make a big deal out of us. We exist to make a big deal out of him. It’s not about me. It’s all about him”

The moon generates no light. It only reflects the greater light. What would happen if we accepted our place as Son reflectors?

Matthew 1:18-25 (NIV) 18  This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19  Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20  But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”–which means, “God with us.” 24  When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Luke 1:26-35 (NLT) 26  In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27  to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28  Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29  Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30  “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32  He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33  And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” 34Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

Conceived- to procreate, to regenerate  bring forth, to cause to be or to become.
Regenerate-   formed or created again, spiritual rebirth , restored to a better, higher, or more worthy state .

Mark 7:20-23 (NLT) 20  And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21  For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22  adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

Problem- Two forces fighting each other. The Me spirit and God’s Spirit.

2 Peter 1:4 (NLT) 4

 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

So, how can this be possible?

Luke 1:35 (NLT) 35

 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV) 18  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even

as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Luke 1:36-38 (NIV) 36  Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37  For nothing is impossible with God.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.

Genesis 1:26a (NLT) 26

 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves”

God and Me-

John 3:6-7 (NLT) 6  Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’

John 3:16 (NLT) 16

 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

This life within us is created to do God’s will-

Hosea 6:6 (NLT) 6

 I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.

Matthew 9:36 (NLT) 36

 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

1 Peter 2:25 (NLT) 25

 Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

Romans 7:24-25 (NLT) 24  Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25

 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
